Day 14- Lake Superior Circle Tour: The Soo to Hiawatha National Forest

On Day 14 of our Lake Superior Bike Tour we crossed the Soo Locks on the Sault International Bridge and reentered the US after spending nine days cycling through Canada. In this blog post, we discuss what it’s like to go through customs on a bike, our favorite spots in the Hiawatha National Forest, a great sandy swimming spot on Lake Superior, and a free campsite along the North Country Trail.

Our Favorite Places in North Carolina

North Carolina is a state of great contrasts. In the west, there are smoky blue mountains and twisting mountain roads. In the central part of the state, you’ll find financial centers and the “Research Triangle.” Along the coast, are white sandy beaches and colorful condos on stilts. There’s a lot to be discovered in this diverse state. Ian and I spent a couple of weeks traveling through North Carolina in February. Here are our favorite spots!

The Outer Banks of North Carolina in a Camper Van in Winter: A Case of Bad Timing

The Outer Banks are one of the biggest travel destinations in North Carolina. White sandy beaches stretch into the distance. Colorful houses stand on skinny legs ready for flooding. And blissful buttery seafood abounds. That said, there are some places that are just not conducive to traveling in a camper van. The Outer Banks in winter just might be one of those places.

A Day of Free Art in Raleigh, North Carolina

When most people think of places known for art, they probably do not think of Raleigh, North Carolina. We were really surprised when on a cloudy day in February, we were able to spend a day totally immersed in art in Raleigh. The best part about it was that all of the art was free to visit.

Three Days in Death Valley National Park

Death Valley is a land of contrasts, and it is probably one of the most unique national parks that we have visited. It holds the honor of being the hottest place on Earth. The lowest place in North America, Badwater Basin, is found in the park at 282 below sea level, but the mountains in the park rise to over 11,000 feet in elevation. There are white salt flats, gargoyle-esque formations of salt crystals, massive sand dunes, eroded badlands, and colorful mountains.

Experiencing Las Vegas #Vanlife Style

During our time in Las Vegas, we witnessed a shooting fireballs, a street fight, a gallery of only food photography, and so many palm trees. We ate pineapple soft serve, Hawaiian food, and Pina Coladas, after a harrowing encounter with a gunman on our run in Lovell Canyon. What happens in Vegas…
